Making a Daisy Angel Food cake is not as hard as most people think. Just use the following recipe.
1-1/2 cups egg whites (10 to 12 large)
1-1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 cup sifted cake flour or sifted all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon or orange extract
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons light-colored corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon of orange extract
4 cups sifted powdered sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
A variety of colored daisies
1 to 2 tablespoons hot water
Let the egg whites stand at room temperature in a large bowl for 30 minutes. Add cream of tartar,1 teaspoon of orange extract, and regular sugar to the eggs and mix until soft peaks form. Fold in the flour and 1 ½ cups of powder sugar into the egg mixture. Bake in a non-greased tube pan. Cut through the batter lightly to remove any air pockets. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool. Mix corn syrup and orange extract in a large bowl until well blended. Add the powder sugar and orange juice to the mixture. If needed add the warm water until the mixture is the right consistency to drizzle. Drizzle the mixture over the cake until the entire cake is covered. Let stand until the icing hardens on the cake. Serve on a decorative platter, and use the daisies to decorate around the cake and the center of the cake.
