Since the American Hero series consisted of a superhero along with aliens, you can use these ideas to prepare many choices of goodies for the party. If it’s a barbeque, it will be easy to begin with an all-American meal like hamburgers and hotdogs. Fries and a salad will round it off, and be sure to serve an interesting dessert to go with the American Hero theme.
A strawberry shortcake would do the trick, as it will look like a red, white, and blue, very patriotic cake when it is done. Start off with an angel food cake, and slice it in half horizontally. Add whipped cream and sliced strawberries for the middle layer, then cover it with the top of the angel food cake. As the top layer of frosting, use the whipped cream again, add more sliced strawberries, and add blueberries to the top for the blue color. You may even want to cover the sides with more whipped cream, smooth it on, and add red, white and blue sprinkles to the sides. When served on a very patriotic dish, this dessert will wow your guests.
As far as the aliens in the TV series are concerned, if you are clever with gelatin, you might try inserting a toy spacecraft in the mold before it is completely firmed up. Also, edible stars and planets can be inserted to make it look like the craft is in outer space. Experiment with food coloring to make it as dark blue as possible, without making your decorations disappear.
