Harry Potter Theme Party . If you can't find golden syrup and/or black treacle, you can use corn syrup and molasses respectively as replacements. To make a treacle tart, you need:
1 sweet pie shell
10 ounces golden syrup
1 tablespoon treacle
Zest of one lemon
Juice of one lemon
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
4 medium eggs
1 ounce fresh bread crumbs
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, mix the golden syrup and treacle with the lemon zest and ginger. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl, then mix with the treacle mixture. Stir in the breadcrumbs. Pour the mixture into the pie shell. Bake for 25 minutes or until the middle of the pie is firm. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.
As a tip, use bread crumbs from slightly stale white bread, not bread crumbs that come from a can. With this recipe, not only are you serving your guests with an authentic Harry Potter treat but you'll be serving up a bit of British culture too. Here's to a great Harry Potter party!
