Magic Centerpieces
Creating a homemade magic centerpiece can be a great way to show cases a person’s talents. They are also great fun for any child to create. They are great to add to any magical party theme and your guests will enjoy it as well.
One of most whimsical of the homemade magic centerpiece would be the top hat. These are fun and easy to make and kids can even help as well. For an added touch place a variety of party favors into the hat and allow the children to pull them out of the hat. They will feel like they are making their very own magic.
To create the handmade centerpiece take a large coffee can and places it into the center of black poster board. The poster board should be at least 13 inches. Next trace around the circle of the can and then measure out from the circle 3 inches and mark. Be sure to do this step at several points around the circle. Then make a circle that surrounds the previous circle and then connect the 3 inch marks.
Once the circles of the handmade centerpiece are drawn you must then cut out the large circle by following the outer line. This will become the top hat brim which will be placed at the bottom of the centerpiece. Be careful not to cut out the center circle.
The next step in creating the homemade centerpiece would be to cut a rectangle out of black cotton fabric which is 8 in wide x 20in long. Take the fabric glue and apply to the seam of the coffee can. Take a short end of the fabric over the glue making sure one end is flush with the tip of the can while the other end extends past the can. Continue to wrap the length of the can and be sure to overlap the short ends. Take the craft glue and secure it.
The next step in creating the homemade centerpiece is to cut ½ in slits into the fabric at the bottom the can and apply glue to the outside edge of the can and then fold each slit into the glue. To apply brim place it on your workforce surface with the fabric side up. Take hot glue and apply it to the bottom of the can. There it is your completed top hat. It will truly become the hit of any party.
