Ideas for
Nautical Centerpieces
The obvious homemade nautical centerpiece would be a large, clear tub filled with lots of wonderful underwater plants and fish. You can actually use real fish, such as a couple of gold fish or a single Chinese fighting fish, as these types of fish can withstand fresh water without much fuss for a period of time. Underwater plants can also be used, or these can be fake. Depending on how large your display is, you might be able to use a Barbie in a mermaid outfit in your centerpiece. And don’t forget a treasure chest, with lots of faux gold chains and pearl necklaces overflowing from it.
Glitter in the water of your handmade nautical centerpiece would also be a great idea, but not if there is live fish in it. Another idea might be to use individual Chinese fighting fish at each table. They will be given away as a prize to one guest at each table who holds the winning ticket. Behind the small fish bowl can be your actual centerpiece, the fish bowl being the focal point. An oval shaped vase behind the bowl can serve to hold a bouquet of various types of plants and other items. Place a Styrofoam pad in the bottom of the vase, and you can place different plants that have to do with water, like cattails, standing lily pads, and even plastic frogs on skewers. Use your imagination to create a wonderful backdrop for the colorful fish in front of it that is actually a prize.
Blue or sea foam green table cloths might also be a great idea to set off your handmade nautical centerpieces. And try adding glitter to create a shiny, watery look.
