To prepare it, you’ll need to prepare or purchase two angel food or tube cakes, a couple of egg whites, red food coloring, green cake decorations, and you’ll need to buy some dry ice on the same day.
Stack the cakes together and cut them into the shape of a mountain. If they don’t already have a hole in the middle, cut a hole through them by using a small juice glass. Line the hole with aluminum foil. You might want to use the juice glass as a mold and form the foil around it. Frost and decorate the cake like a mountain with green frosting as the vegetation, and use miniature trees if they are available. Beat one or two egg whites only, add red food coloring to it. Place the dry ice in the bottom of the aluminum foil lining, then pour in the red egg white mixture. When it’s “show time,” bring the cake to the table, pour a bit of hot water into the hole, and watch the “lava” erupt, smoke and all!
