A Surprise party is a definite cause for celebration; and what better way to celebrate than with handmade centerpieces.
A homemade centerpiece for a Surprise party could center around the ultimate symbol of surprise: the Jack in the Box. Everyone expresses happy surprise when good ol’ Jack (usually in the likeness of a clown) springs forth from his box; so why not make a centerpiece in his jolly, friendly likeness. The host could—with the help of unlikely party supplies like a handle and spring mechanism—actually make a large Jack in the Box to place at the center of the party table. ‘Jack’ could be holding a small sign or banner that reads “Surprise!”, and guests could take turns winding up the box to make him appear. Or she could simply take a brightly dressed hand puppet and place it in the center of a multicolored box, likening a Jack in the Box. If the puppet is handmade (perhaps from cloth, wearing doll clothes) and the box carved and hand painted, then all the better!
Another handmade centerpiece for a Surprise party could take the form of an edible Jack in the Box. This could be a giant ice cream sundae (Jack’s clown like appearance lends itself well to the textures and colors of ice cream), a butter cream cake, a cupcake tower, etc. It should be both yummy or colorful, and should ‘surprise’ guests with its originality and its good taste.
